April Bombshell Stamps Hump Day Hop!

It's the last Wednesday of the month...so you know what that means! It's time for the Bombshell Stamps Hump Day Hop! It's Alison, your official Hump Day Hottie, and I am SO stoked about this month's hop theme. And I think you will be too. This month's hop is HUGE! We have 17 amazing stops for you to take. And I am sure you are going to love every single one of them! Here's what I wrote in the forum.

"On April 22, 1923, a star was born. A star that we all know. A star that, without her, Bombshell Stamps may not even exist (if I may be so presumptuous). Who is it? None other than Bettie Page. What better month to pay homage to the Pin-Up Queen herself than the month of her birth? So for this hop, I want you to give Ms. Page some love. Make a project, any type of project, using her as inspiration. There are thousands of images to view, lots of quotes she has said, and others have said about her." Here are some photos of Ms. Page.

I searched the web, looking for more inspirational photos of Ms. Page. I found a bajillion. I could do a month's worth of Bettie Page inspired projects, and still have ideas for more. But, I decided to go with this picture for today.

Doesn't she remind you of Bombshell Stamps' Butterfly Queen??? Well, that was the first stamp that I thought of, so I decided to go with her. Here's what I've done.

I went with a very unusual color palette for myself. I hardly ever work in just browns, but for this project, I thought it would work. Many of Bettie's photos show her wearing black, but she also wears a lot of animal prints, so that's where the color inspiration comes from.

I used all Copics on Ms. Page, except for the black in her hair. Which brings me to something I'd like to point out. I re-did Butterfly Queen's hair. Usually it's curly, which just wasn't anything like the iconic hair that Bettie always sported. So I got a little creative with my bad self and gave her bangs, and tried to give her more of a straighter 'do.

I used Tiara Glitz Stickles on her outfit, because the gal needed to sparkle! I found those fabulous hearts on a cardstock I had from Prima, which I thought totally fit the bill here. And check out that metallic copper cardstock behind her. Luscious!

My banner was cute from one of the smaller stamps in the Bombshell Angel set. I used Copics on it, and just wrote in "Bettie." A few pearls, and this baby was done. But seriously, I will need to revisit this challenge, as I have so many other ideas! Ooh... perhaps a Bettie Page Art Journal??? Yeah, I know...in my spare time! Hahaha!
I hope you liked this challenge. I am quite sure Ms. Page would have been honored to have so many talented ladies paying homage to her. Here is the full hop list....did I mention that there is 17 stops?!? Go Bombshells!

Love this! Butterfly Queen is on my wishlist. Even if I didn't know the theme of the hop. I would instantly recognise this as Bettie.

February Smeared & Smudged Sketch Challenge

The new Smeared & Smudged challenges are up and ready for you to participate in! I got instantly inspired by Kelli’s card sketch for the month, as I have been working with different ideas for my next “Tarot Card.” Haha! That’s actually pretty funny! If you’ve been checking in over the past couple of weeks, you may have seen my Misty Benson Tarot Set 1 ( Smeared Ink ) cards. I’ve used The World and The Fool so far. Today, I bring you Death. Don’t worry…it’s actually a joyful image…one that I intend to use a lot! First, here’s the sketch. I flipped it and changed the ribbon and embellishment a bit. Can I just start off by saying that it is quite nerve wracking to slice your image??? I have done it a few times in the past, but I always get butterflies when I attempt it again. I colored the image and the card itself using nothing but Distress Inks and my Cut-n-Dry Nibs. My skull button at the top has been colored with Alcohol Inks.   The colors look a little off to m

Christmas in July with Imagine Crafts & Stencil Girl!

Hello! Have you heard? The Imagine AIRs have been hopping with Stencil Girl! If you have been here before, you know I loooove me some stencils, so this collaboration was very exciting for me! The teams are hopping for 3 consecutive Saturdays, and this is week 2. I have the entire list of hop links at the bottom of the post. Be sure you don't miss anyone! I decided to to create an extra large gift tag with my new stencils. Using red cardstock, I taped down the Journal Texture #8 Stencil  and inked it up with Golden Glitz Delicata ink . I promise you, this is the BEST gold ink you will ever use! The Journal stamp only has 2 diamonds on it (it's a 4x4" stencil), so after I inked up the first pair, I moved over the stencil, lined it up, and inked again. Next I wanted to do something textural with the Urban Insiders Star . So I took some evergreen cardstock, taped down the star, and slathered on some yummy Iridescent Green Creative Medium . After the medium dried, I ga
