Day 24 of 31: Reverse Metal Bats with Dreamweaver Stencils

Greetings! Today is Day 24 of the Smeared & Smudged 31 Days of Halloween. Since it's Thursday, I have a new project to go along with this month's challenge over at the Dream it up! Blog for Dreamweaver Stencils. This month's challenge is Magical and Mysterious, and I am the lucky gal the gets to be their Guest Designer for the month! I am thankful that there are 5 Thursdays this month!

You may recall that on the 3rd of the month, I shared a project with bats in a window. Well today, I have the reverse version. You'll see what I mean...

This window pane was actually the first one that I did. But I decided to complete the other version first. With this window (Arched Window), I had the blue of the aluminum facing in towards the stencil. so that the panes would be raised. Once sanded, the panes became silver (the under color). Next, I stenciled in the Bats with a Sharpie. I moved them around so that they would fit to my liking.

After I cut the window out, I applied the Damask stencil with White Embossing Paste to a lovely silver cardstock. Once that dried, I started to apply all of my elements, but in the opposite colors that I had done on the original piece.

Because of the sheen on the metallic cardstock, I applied my "Boo" stamp (Recollections) with StazOn. Would you like to see the 2 Mini Pages side by side in my album?

Here they are! Sorry they look a little crooked. Which do you like better? I think the original is a bit more dramatic, but I like them both. Please be sure to visit the rest of the Wicked Bloggers, listed in my side bar. And of course, there's also the Dream it up! team, listed below. Thanks for stopping by. Have a fang-tastic day!

Both versions are fantastic. The left side is a bit more dramatic, but I like the lightness of the right side. I love how you are not afraid to try new things.

So clever, Alison. I love that you showed both ways to create with the stencils. I love the streaks from sanding look like it's raining outside as well. Thanks so much, Alison!
These are both scrumptiously created Alison! I like how the navy blue one is obviously metal...makes it more like walking down a creepy alleyway and finding a door open into a victorian/gothic mansion. The recent one sparkles more, but is eerie at the same time. Hmmm...can't decide...they're both great!
WOW! Those are really stunning, I liked being able to compare them side by side! Nicely done!

Very cool Alison! I really like the look of the lighter one because the bats really jump out at you, but the other has such a great eerie feel to it, and they look wonderful next to each other. I guess I'm saying I love them both!

February Smeared & Smudged Sketch Challenge

The new Smeared & Smudged challenges are up and ready for you to participate in! I got instantly inspired by Kelli’s card sketch for the month, as I have been working with different ideas for my next “Tarot Card.” Haha! That’s actually pretty funny! If you’ve been checking in over the past couple of weeks, you may have seen my Misty Benson Tarot Set 1 ( Smeared Ink ) cards. I’ve used The World and The Fool so far. Today, I bring you Death. Don’t worry…it’s actually a joyful image…one that I intend to use a lot! First, here’s the sketch. I flipped it and changed the ribbon and embellishment a bit. Can I just start off by saying that it is quite nerve wracking to slice your image??? I have done it a few times in the past, but I always get butterflies when I attempt it again. I colored the image and the card itself using nothing but Distress Inks and my Cut-n-Dry Nibs. My skull button at the top has been colored with Alcohol Inks.   The colors look a little off to m

Christmas in July with Imagine Crafts & Stencil Girl!

Hello! Have you heard? The Imagine AIRs have been hopping with Stencil Girl! If you have been here before, you know I loooove me some stencils, so this collaboration was very exciting for me! The teams are hopping for 3 consecutive Saturdays, and this is week 2. I have the entire list of hop links at the bottom of the post. Be sure you don't miss anyone! I decided to to create an extra large gift tag with my new stencils. Using red cardstock, I taped down the Journal Texture #8 Stencil  and inked it up with Golden Glitz Delicata ink . I promise you, this is the BEST gold ink you will ever use! The Journal stamp only has 2 diamonds on it (it's a 4x4" stencil), so after I inked up the first pair, I moved over the stencil, lined it up, and inked again. Next I wanted to do something textural with the Urban Insiders Star . So I took some evergreen cardstock, taped down the star, and slathered on some yummy Iridescent Green Creative Medium . After the medium dried, I ga
