Birthday Bash Blog Hop

Hello! I am excited to be participating in a very special Birthday Bash Blog Hop starting today, Thursday, January 24th, 2019 and ending at 11:59pm EST on Sunday, January 27, 2019! The Designing Divas and I, along with several members of the talented White Rose Crafts design team, will be creating extra special Birthday Themed Shaker Cards for the hop today! In addition, my project for today also work's with this week's White Rose Crafts theme, which is "Water Activated Inks." Please be sure to read through the bottom of my post for details on a Freebie Sparkle Blend, free shipping, and all of the Hop links. Here's my card.
I was inspired by the Tim Holtz "Blueprint Assortment" stamp set. I've had it for a while, but never got around to using it. And I thought this hop, along with the WRC theme was the perfect opportunity. I decided to go with the "Conversation Hearts" Sparkle Blend, because of the wide range of colors in it. There's blue, purple, orange, pink, red, yellow.....but they aren't super bold. The shades are softer, without being pastel. Perfect for a birthday card. Next I chose my Distress Oxides for the background. This is where the "Water Activated Ink" theme comes into play. Adding water to Distress Oxide ink causes the colors to oxidize and change into a beautiful chalky finish. I used Peacock Feathers, Worn Lipstick, Twisted Citron, Wilted Violet, and Fossilized Amber. I applied the colors to my craft mat, sprayed them with water and dragged my white cardstock through. This gave me a linear, streaky pattern that I liked. I dried and re-dragged my cardstock through to add color to the top and bottom of the layer, until I was happy with the overall look.
Next, I stamped my 2 images and colored them with Zig Clean Color Markers. I also used a white Posca pen on the candle. Then I die cut rectangles from Lawn Fawn's Pop Up Box die set. Behind my windows, I added a piece of Perfectly Plaid Rainbow cardstock, also from Lawn Fawn. I went back and forth about adding a sentiment, but in the end I opted not to. I'm still thinking I may add a small one in the middle, but I hate to cover up the color there. What do you think?
The simple design and easy-to-color images made for a quick double shaker that I think is super festive and fun. And you can get pretty much all of the supplies over at White Rose Crafts. Now, how about the Freebie, Blog Hop, and free shipping info?
For a limited time, you have the opportunity to receive an exclusive, 1st Birthday Freebie Sparkle Blend--only available, while supplies last, with purchase over at White Rose Crafts! Don't worry, though--Amber has reserved 6 of these freebie blends to give away on Monday, after the hop ends! 5 of those 1st Birthday Blends will go to 5 lucky winners, as Door Prizes, who leave comments on each of the Blog Stops. The more comments you leave, the more entries you get! For our Grand Prize this month, one lucky winner will receive the full February Release (before it's revealed), plus a full sized Birthday Freebie Blend! That's 7 full sized sparkle blends! To be eligible to win the grand prize, you must leave comments on all legs of the blog hop.

Rules: Must be at least 18 to enter. All entries must be received no later than 11:59pm Eastern Time on Sunday, January 27, 2019. To enter, you must leave comments on each leg of the blog hop. There will be one Grand Prize winner and and 5 Door Prize winners drawn from all eligible commenters on Monday, January 28, 2019. I love your card and how you mixed the inks together! I think a small- happy birthday- sentiment would look good in the middle. I love Tim Holtz blueprint stamps!

February Smeared & Smudged Sketch Challenge

The new Smeared & Smudged challenges are up and ready for you to participate in! I got instantly inspired by Kelli’s card sketch for the month, as I have been working with different ideas for my next “Tarot Card.” Haha! That’s actually pretty funny! If you’ve been checking in over the past couple of weeks, you may have seen my Misty Benson Tarot Set 1 ( Smeared Ink ) cards. I’ve used The World and The Fool so far. Today, I bring you Death. Don’t worry…it’s actually a joyful image…one that I intend to use a lot! First, here’s the sketch. I flipped it and changed the ribbon and embellishment a bit. Can I just start off by saying that it is quite nerve wracking to slice your image??? I have done it a few times in the past, but I always get butterflies when I attempt it again. I colored the image and the card itself using nothing but Distress Inks and my Cut-n-Dry Nibs. My skull button at the top has been colored with Alcohol Inks.   The colors look a little off to m

Christmas in July with Imagine Crafts & Stencil Girl!

Hello! Have you heard? The Imagine AIRs have been hopping with Stencil Girl! If you have been here before, you know I loooove me some stencils, so this collaboration was very exciting for me! The teams are hopping for 3 consecutive Saturdays, and this is week 2. I have the entire list of hop links at the bottom of the post. Be sure you don't miss anyone! I decided to to create an extra large gift tag with my new stencils. Using red cardstock, I taped down the Journal Texture #8 Stencil  and inked it up with Golden Glitz Delicata ink . I promise you, this is the BEST gold ink you will ever use! The Journal stamp only has 2 diamonds on it (it's a 4x4" stencil), so after I inked up the first pair, I moved over the stencil, lined it up, and inked again. Next I wanted to do something textural with the Urban Insiders Star . So I took some evergreen cardstock, taped down the star, and slathered on some yummy Iridescent Green Creative Medium . After the medium dried, I ga

Two Huge Valentine’s Day Hops!

I am in not one, but two Valentine’s Day hops! Not bad for someone that doesn’t even like Valentine’s Day… The first is via Smeared & Smudged . It’s time for our monthly Member Blog Hop! The second was started by Taylor Usry . Please bear with me…this post is long because I am sharing 2 projects and the hop lists are huge. Let’s stat with Smeared & Smudged, shall we? My dear friend Alex and I collaborated on the theme for this month’s S&S Member Hop. Instead of making it a free-for –all, we decided to challenge our members a little…create something Valentine’s Day / love themed, but there is a catch.  Because we are Smeared and Smudged you can not use any of the following: No hearts No red or pink Nothing ‘cute’ unless you make it uncute of course :) Ok, so it’s not dark and scary…but it’s definitely not cute either. I used my colored pencils for the focal image.  It’s from Smeared Ink’s Smitten collection. The “pretty fly” is from the teir teen Style Sa
