Day 15 of 31: Buttons Galore and a Portrait

Mwahahahahaaaaaa!!!! Welcome to Day 15 of the Smeared & Smudged 31 Days of Halloween. It's also Dreamweaver Thursday, plus the Stampendous team is doing a fun collaboration with Buttons Galore and More. They were so generous in sending us some incredible buttons in an awesome variety of colors.

Don't be fooled by this Christmas banner...I am still sharing a Halloween project today. Now, how about some additional prizes beyond what S&S is offering today?

Please get all of the details for this hop on the Stampendous Blog. Don't miss out on these prizes and awesome projects from my teamies! Now, on to my button-filled project.....

I used the lovely Cameo stencil as my focal piece, but I tried to creep it up a wee bit with my backgrounds. I was going for a wall in an old abandoned house. With the buttons as sort of medallions that frame out this once-important portrait.

I applied the Cameo with Black Embossing Paste. while it was still wet, I sprinkled some Goldfinch Metallic F/X powder by dipping a brush in the powder and tapping the side of the brush over the oval. I tried to be careful and not get the powder on the actual silhouette. After it dried, I brushed off the excess. Next I used the Stone Wall stencil with Toffee and Smokey Gray VersaFine from Imagine Crafts. Then I added the fun little Buttons from Buttons Galore with Mini Glue Dots.

My 6x6 card base came with the stripes, but I needed to age the brightness of the white. So I used some more ink, and the fabulous irRESISTables in Gold, also from Imagine Crafts. Then I added some washi tape that has silhouettes of crows, so I thought it worked really well. Now, before I send you off...thank you so much to everyone that said such nice things about my ATC yesterday. I am so glad that the black line on her face wasn't as noticeable to you as it is to me. Yes, we are truly our own worst critics. You guys all made me feel great. So thank you. Below is all of the Stampendous gals that are sharing projects today, so please give them a visit (don't forget about the prizes!). Also, the Wicked Bloggers are all listed in my side bar, so show them some love too. Thanks for stopping by, and have a creeptastic day!

I love your card! It does remind me of an abandoned home. I have been watching videos on Youtube from people who go into old abandoned buildings to photograph and this is perfect. It has the perfect atmosphere.

Christmas in July with Imagine Crafts & Stencil Girl!

Hello! Have you heard? The Imagine AIRs have been hopping with Stencil Girl! If you have been here before, you know I loooove me some stencils, so this collaboration was very exciting for me! The teams are hopping for 3 consecutive Saturdays, and this is week 2. I have the entire list of hop links at the bottom of the post. Be sure you don't miss anyone! I decided to to create an extra large gift tag with my new stencils. Using red cardstock, I taped down the Journal Texture #8 Stencil  and inked it up with Golden Glitz Delicata ink . I promise you, this is the BEST gold ink you will ever use! The Journal stamp only has 2 diamonds on it (it's a 4x4" stencil), so after I inked up the first pair, I moved over the stencil, lined it up, and inked again. Next I wanted to do something textural with the Urban Insiders Star . So I took some evergreen cardstock, taped down the star, and slathered on some yummy Iridescent Green Creative Medium . After the medium dried, I ga

Deco Art and Andy Skinner Hop

This is a very exciting week for the Stampendous team! We are hanging out with the ultra cool Deco Art Mixed Media team, each using each other's products to share some incredible creations with you. These companies go hand in hand, so using each other's products is easy. And the results are amazing. We are of course featuring Andy Skinner's stamps, who is the DecoArt International Education Coordinator.  And yup, there are prizes! But I want you to go to the Stampendous Blog for all of that info. The link is at the bottom of the post. Now, on to my project. I made a cool wall hanging today. I started off with a piece of MDF and I drilled 2 holes, and covered it with DecoArt's white Gesso. After it dried, I used Andy's Alcohol and Media fluid Acrylics Layering Technique. You can check out his how-to video HERE . Needless to say, it's a great technique, and I loved doing it. Once I finished with the aforementioned technique, I sealed the piece w

Changes

Greetings! I don't have a project to share with you today, but rather, an announcement. I have decided to completely revamp my blog, and move it to a new site. I've been blogging at 21st Century Pillow Book for over 10 years now, and it's been wonderful. But the "Pillow Book" aspect got lost somewhere along the way. If you don't know what that is, read my description in the blog header, or do a quick search. They are really very cool. Anyway, I thought it was due time for me to work on a new blog, more of a brand, etc. So, I invite you to now join me over at alisonheikkila.com . I've still got some polishing up to do, and a whole lot of learning, as WordPress is completely different from Blogger, but I am really excited for this new site. I've wanted to do this for a long time, and I am happy to finally be getting it done. Bear with me as I figure out the best way to make it all look and flow. I thankfully have some help with that. But I think you
