Aurora Wings Challenge #72

Hello! Today I have a project for the Aurora Wings Challenge #72, "Once Upon a Dream or Nightmare." Of course, I had to go the nightmare route and I chose to work with the haunting A Dark Undercurrent (Full Version).

Coloring this image was such a blast. I used my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. I went with an unusual color palette for her, and I love the end result. Here's a close up.

To add white highlights to the pearls in her hair and on one of the skulls, I used a Posca Pen. Of all the white pens I have used, I think that one is my favorite.

I used cream Lace Paper from White Rose Crafts behind my colored image to add some texture and the idea of movement. Then, to add more texture and to add additional "treasure" to the mermaid's stash, I glued down some of the Ocean Legend Sparkle Blend from Doodles Paper Playground (no longer available). You can see a teeny gold anchor and ship's wheel tucked into the mix. I adhered them down with On Point Glue from Imagine.

I adhered a piece of navy blue cardstock to a cream colored base. I think the end result is a little haunting, and the lace paper with Sparkle Blends adds an element of curiosity. "What's tucked in there? What's this stuff made of?"  Etc.

Please be sure to visit the Aurora Wings Challenge Blog to see what other creations have been made for this current challenge. It certainly is a fun one! I hope you'll play along too. Thanks for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!

What a yummy color palette on your gorgeous goth mermaid, Alison! I agree that the Posca pen is the best for adding the white details. Love that fab paper and the Sparkle Blends are fun and intriguing. Had to take a closer look to find the hidden anchor. Fabulous work! xxD
Gorgeous dark work, Alison! I love the unique skin tone you gave the mermaid - really adds to the otherworldly flare! The lace paper looks beautiful and striking against the navy blue. Thank you so much for this haunting beauty of an inspiration today! Mitzi xxx

Christmas in July with Imagine Crafts & Stencil Girl!

Hello! Have you heard? The Imagine AIRs have been hopping with Stencil Girl! If you have been here before, you know I loooove me some stencils, so this collaboration was very exciting for me! The teams are hopping for 3 consecutive Saturdays, and this is week 2. I have the entire list of hop links at the bottom of the post. Be sure you don't miss anyone! I decided to to create an extra large gift tag with my new stencils. Using red cardstock, I taped down the Journal Texture #8 Stencil  and inked it up with Golden Glitz Delicata ink . I promise you, this is the BEST gold ink you will ever use! The Journal stamp only has 2 diamonds on it (it's a 4x4" stencil), so after I inked up the first pair, I moved over the stencil, lined it up, and inked again. Next I wanted to do something textural with the Urban Insiders Star . So I took some evergreen cardstock, taped down the star, and slathered on some yummy Iridescent Green Creative Medium . After the medium dried, I ga
