Magical Unicorn- Special Guest Designer

Hello! Today and occasionally going forward I will have a special guest designer (or two!) on my blog. My daughter Rhiannon is now a Designing Mini Diva for Doodles Paper Playground, and she is beyond thrilled. Rhiannon is 10, and if you've been a follower of mine, you'll know that I love to craft with my kids. Rhiannon has become quite the talented artist, and Amber asked her to join our Design Team to help encourage kids to get crafty. So, here is her very first post, written by her (and overseen by me). She created this card completely on her own, and it's even more beautiful in person.

Hi, I'm Rhiannon. I started this card because I love the Unicorn Dreams Sparkle Blend from Doodles Paper Playground. I love the unicorns and the beads in it. I like that the colors are pink, purple, and blue, which are my unicorn colors. I stamped and die cut the unicorn, and then colored it with Arteza markers.  Then I die cut a window for my shaker out of black cardstock and painted it. I used Twinkle H2O's because they're really nice on black and they sparkle a lot.
The next step I did was attach acetate to the window, and put foam tape on the back of the window. I cut out the background out of pink cardstock and put the unicorn on to the background. Then I put the Sparkle Blend on top of the unicorn and took off the back of the foam tape, and put the window down.
I cut out a standard size card out of white cardstock, and put some Distress Oxides on it. I used Peacock Feathers, Picked Raspberry, and Wilted Violet. I applied it by lightly dragging the corner of the ink pad around the edges of the card.
After I finished making the card base, I put the shaker on top. I used a very thick foam tape (from Brutus Monroe) to help make the big beads move in the shaker.Unicorn Dreams is one of my favorite Sparkle Blends. I love unicorns, so this card was fun to make. I like how the card came out because it's both shiny and opaque. A special thanks to Amber for having me as a guest designer. I am really excited to do this.
Back to Alison.... Not bad for her first post, huh? I love this card! She spent a lot of time working on that shaker frame, and it looks fantastic. You can get the Unicorn Dreams Sparkle Blend from the White Rose Crafts shop. WRC is the exclusive retailer for Sparkle Blends, which are all limited edition. You can use my code, "Alison 15" to save 15% off of your purchase. I would love it if you could leave some kind words of encouragement for Rhiannon as she starts on this new adventure of being a Mini Diva. Thanks so much for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!

February Smeared & Smudged Sketch Challenge

The new Smeared & Smudged challenges are up and ready for you to participate in! I got instantly inspired by Kelli’s card sketch for the month, as I have been working with different ideas for my next “Tarot Card.” Haha! That’s actually pretty funny! If you’ve been checking in over the past couple of weeks, you may have seen my Misty Benson Tarot Set 1 ( Smeared Ink ) cards. I’ve used The World and The Fool so far. Today, I bring you Death. Don’t worry…it’s actually a joyful image…one that I intend to use a lot! First, here’s the sketch. I flipped it and changed the ribbon and embellishment a bit. Can I just start off by saying that it is quite nerve wracking to slice your image??? I have done it a few times in the past, but I always get butterflies when I attempt it again. I colored the image and the card itself using nothing but Distress Inks and my Cut-n-Dry Nibs. My skull button at the top has been colored with Alcohol Inks.   The colors look a little off to m

Christmas in July with Imagine Crafts & Stencil Girl!

Hello! Have you heard? The Imagine AIRs have been hopping with Stencil Girl! If you have been here before, you know I loooove me some stencils, so this collaboration was very exciting for me! The teams are hopping for 3 consecutive Saturdays, and this is week 2. I have the entire list of hop links at the bottom of the post. Be sure you don't miss anyone! I decided to to create an extra large gift tag with my new stencils. Using red cardstock, I taped down the Journal Texture #8 Stencil  and inked it up with Golden Glitz Delicata ink . I promise you, this is the BEST gold ink you will ever use! The Journal stamp only has 2 diamonds on it (it's a 4x4" stencil), so after I inked up the first pair, I moved over the stencil, lined it up, and inked again. Next I wanted to do something textural with the Urban Insiders Star . So I took some evergreen cardstock, taped down the star, and slathered on some yummy Iridescent Green Creative Medium . After the medium dried, I ga
