Blended Heart

Hello! This month, the Artists in Residence of Imagine are sharing different ways to blend their fantastic products. I adore the chalky, lovely colors of VersaMagic, so that's what I wanted to highlight in this tutorial.

I started by taping my stencil down only on the left side, so that the tape created a hinge. This way I can check my work as I go along.

I chose the colors I wanted to use and I started with the lightest shade, which in this case is Key Lime. I do this because, as I begin to blend the colors, I won't dirty up the lighter ink pads with the darker colors. I used a sponge dauber to ink up the outer edge of the heart.

A quick check to make sure I like how it looks, and then I used Thatched Straw.

Since VersaMagic stays wet for a while, it is quite easy to blend the colors. I take each shade out a little further that I want it to show, so that I have room to overlap the colors.

Next, I used Pink Grapefruit, followed by Red Brick. Even though these colors "shouldn't" blend well together, the VersaMagic makes it so easy to make them work together. Here's a tip...I like to of course use one sponge dauber per color, and to keep them from getting mixed up, I stack them right on colors when I'm not using them until the project is completed. Then I trimmed out the heart. I didn't like the white border I left, so I colored the edge with New Sprout Memento Marker, which happens to match Key Lime pretty perfectly.

I die cut a simple "friend" sentiment from CAS-ual Fridays using Mint Julep cardstock. I thought this was another great opportunity to do some blending. I used a Bamboo Leaves Memento Marker for the top portion of the letters, then I blended it with Pear Tart.

In the photo above, you can see how nicely the 2 colors are blended on the "f." On the rest of the word, only the Bamboo Leaves has been used.

I made my card base out of Dare Devil cardstock, cut to 5 1/2" x 8." I spritzed it with Sheer Shimmer Spritz in Sparkle. I cut out a strip of Banana Pepper (1 1/4" x 4") and Sweet Potato (3/4" x 4), glued them together and sprayed them with Sheer Shimmer Sparkle Frost. Then I assembled my card.

I thought the card needed something else. A little more white. My son was playing Pac-Man next to me while I was working, and then it came to me. Dots! Just like the dots Pac-Man has to eat! So I used my Wedding White irRESISTables Pico Embellisher to make dots around the perimeter.

Holiday Spirit: Aurora Wings Challenge #73

Seasons Greetings! Today I have a project for the latest Aurora Wings Challenge which is "Holiday Spirit." I decided to take the theme as a two-fer. Not only is this a holiday card, but the "spirits" are flowing too.

I used the Wine Sprite for my card, and gave her a Merlot look. I colored her with my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. Here's a closeup.

I found a lovely paper in my stash from Wild Rose Studio from their Holly Lane collection. For my sentiment, I had some pretty red glitter cardstock from DCWV that I die cut with an old alphabet set from QuicKutz. I also added some sequins from a few different Sparkle Blends from Doodles Paper Playground. The sequins and the sentiment were all glued on with On Point Glue from Imagine.

On my card base, I inked the edges with Antique Linen Distress Ink, and then Peeled Paint Distress Ink. After I adhered my background to my base, I added Rock Candy Stickles to the edges. This gave just a touch of sparkle.
