Desert Islands Crafters Challenge #1

Welcome to the very first Desert Islands Crafters Challenge! This is going to be an awesome new type of challenge, and I really hope a lot of you join in on the fun! Here’s the premise…you are stranded on a desert island with only 10 items. Now go make something with them! Challenges will be on the 1st and the 15th of every month, and the winner of the previous challenge gets to create their own desert itinerary! How cool is that? We’ll be making projects from your ideas! The rest of the deets are on the DICC blog, so please be sure to go check it out.

Now to start us all off, we have our fearless leader and creator, Mrs. Weyermaster’s itinerary.

Mrs. Weyermaster’s  Desert Island Itinerary
1)Stitching & Piercing
2)Pearls & Gems
3)Embossing
4)Die Cuts
5)Sparkle - Glitter etc
6) Ribbon & Flowers
7) A Hand Coloured Image - rubber or digi stamp, coloured with your fave medium
8)Theme - Mystical & Fantasy Creatures
9) Colour Scheme - Bright Pink & Black
10) Colour Scheme - Rainbow Colours
You must use at least 5 items from the Itinerary, the rest is up to you :)

Here is my creation, using 6 of the items listed above.

The items I included are numbers: 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10. I started off with a Sweet Pea image called Autumn Splendor, which I won from Christine Riley’s blog. Isn’t she beautiful? I colored her with my colored pencils (of course, b/c they are my fave medium!) The sentiment is also from Sweet Pea Stamps.

I am really happy with how the coloring came out. I loved using the rainbow as my color scheme! My favorite thing on her is her hair…probably not surprising, I know, since I’m such a hair fanatic.

My yummy flowers are from Prima, and I Stickled them a little. My cardstock is from American Crafts and Prism, rhinestones from Kaiser, and the brad is from American Crafts.

So what do you think? Isn’t this a fantastically fun challenge? I really hop you will play along with us! But before you run off to create your own Desert Islands creation, please visit the rest of the Island Girls!

February Smeared & Smudged Sketch Challenge

The new Smeared & Smudged challenges are up and ready for you to participate in! I got instantly inspired by Kelli’s card sketch for the month, as I have been working with different ideas for my next “Tarot Card.” Haha! That’s actually pretty funny! If you’ve been checking in over the past couple of weeks, you may have seen my Misty Benson Tarot Set 1 ( Smeared Ink ) cards. I’ve used The World and The Fool so far. Today, I bring you Death. Don’t worry…it’s actually a joyful image…one that I intend to use a lot! First, here’s the sketch. I flipped it and changed the ribbon and embellishment a bit. Can I just start off by saying that it is quite nerve wracking to slice your image??? I have done it a few times in the past, but I always get butterflies when I attempt it again. I colored the image and the card itself using nothing but Distress Inks and my Cut-n-Dry Nibs. My skull button at the top has been colored with Alcohol Inks.   The colors look a little off to m

Christmas in July with Imagine Crafts & Stencil Girl!

Hello! Have you heard? The Imagine AIRs have been hopping with Stencil Girl! If you have been here before, you know I loooove me some stencils, so this collaboration was very exciting for me! The teams are hopping for 3 consecutive Saturdays, and this is week 2. I have the entire list of hop links at the bottom of the post. Be sure you don't miss anyone! I decided to to create an extra large gift tag with my new stencils. Using red cardstock, I taped down the Journal Texture #8 Stencil  and inked it up with Golden Glitz Delicata ink . I promise you, this is the BEST gold ink you will ever use! The Journal stamp only has 2 diamonds on it (it's a 4x4" stencil), so after I inked up the first pair, I moved over the stencil, lined it up, and inked again. Next I wanted to do something textural with the Urban Insiders Star . So I took some evergreen cardstock, taped down the star, and slathered on some yummy Iridescent Green Creative Medium . After the medium dried, I ga
