Tando Collaboration Finale with Stampendous

STM_Tando_banner
Hello! It's the grand finale for the Tando Creative and Stampendous collaboration. You are in for a real treat today. If you are only just joining the party, please head on over to the Stampendous Blog to see what the scoop is, and to find out how to win one of 3 prize packs. Now, on to my project.

I know you've seen a lot of this guy all through the week, but come on... He's just SO cool! He's called Steam Pumpkin, and this is one of my favorite images released in the new July catalog. I broke out my alcohol markers, which I really haven't done lately....but I needed really great blending, and honestly, my (very very small) Copic collection, as well as my Prismacolors just needed to be used. This was my first attempt at making something look like it's actually metal, rust and all...and I have to say I'm pretty happy with it. Especially considering my limited color supply.

As I was working on coloring the Steam Pumpkin, I was putting layer after layer on Tando Creative's Layered Arch with Cobweb. Where's the cobweb you say? Not here! The kit comes with so many fantastic pieces, I decided to break the pats up so that I can have several Halloween decorations with it. I used lots of Deco Art media for painting, cracking, and antiquing Tando's chipboard.

Once I was happy with the painted and cracked background, I applied the Gears Stencil with Copper Embossing Paste. I sprinkled in black Glass Glitter, bronze micro glitter, and a couple of colors of Metallic F/X powder for added texture, shine, and patina. Many many years ago, my dad (who used to work for Bulova- the watch company) gave me a delightful bag of watch parts. I use them from time to time (Hahaha! Pun intended!) on my projects, and it makes me think about him. He passed away 15 years ago, and I love to include things that remind me of my dad in many of my pieces. But I digress.....so the little actual watch bits that you see are from him. And it makes this project a little more special.

After I fussy cut Mr. Pumpkin from his background, I added Texture Gems by Faber-Castell to his monocle for some shine. I also used a few pieces from Tando's Industrial Elements Nuts and Washers sheet way up at the top of the arch. I painted them with Deco Art Media Fluid Acrylics, and I laid some more watch parts on top. Everything was secured with Beacon Adhesives' Zip Dry Glue, which worked fabulously. So there you have it! I hope you like my projects. I think he's going to be staying out all year round....I mean, what's better than Halloween and Steampunk? Please be sure to visit all of the hoppers listed below. Thanks so much for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!

February Smeared & Smudged Sketch Challenge

The new Smeared & Smudged challenges are up and ready for you to participate in! I got instantly inspired by Kelli’s card sketch for the month, as I have been working with different ideas for my next “Tarot Card.” Haha! That’s actually pretty funny! If you’ve been checking in over the past couple of weeks, you may have seen my Misty Benson Tarot Set 1 ( Smeared Ink ) cards. I’ve used The World and The Fool so far. Today, I bring you Death. Don’t worry…it’s actually a joyful image…one that I intend to use a lot! First, here’s the sketch. I flipped it and changed the ribbon and embellishment a bit. Can I just start off by saying that it is quite nerve wracking to slice your image??? I have done it a few times in the past, but I always get butterflies when I attempt it again. I colored the image and the card itself using nothing but Distress Inks and my Cut-n-Dry Nibs. My skull button at the top has been colored with Alcohol Inks.   The colors look a little off ...

Two Huge Valentine’s Day Hops!

I am in not one, but two Valentine’s Day hops! Not bad for someone that doesn’t even like Valentine’s Day… The first is via Smeared & Smudged . It’s time for our monthly Member Blog Hop! The second was started by Taylor Usry . Please bear with me…this post is long because I am sharing 2 projects and the hop lists are huge. Let’s stat with Smeared & Smudged, shall we? My dear friend Alex and I collaborated on the theme for this month’s S&S Member Hop. Instead of making it a free-for –all, we decided to challenge our members a little…create something Valentine’s Day / love themed, but there is a catch.  Because we are Smeared and Smudged you can not use any of the following: No hearts No red or pink Nothing ‘cute’ unless you make it uncute of course :) Ok, so it’s not dark and scary…but it’s definitely not cute either. I used my colored pencils for the focal image.  It’s from Smeared Ink’s Smitten collection. The “pretty fly” is from the teir teen...
