Happy Birthday Susan! Plus Wicked Wednesday

Hello and welcome to a very special post, dedicated to a very special lady. Today is my dear friend Susan Salyer's birthday. Another wonderful friend, Suzi McKenzie, thought it would be a lovely idea to have a birthday hop for her, so I couldn't pass this up. So my first project is for her. My second is my newest ATC for Wicked Wednesday, more details for that below.

I started off with the sweet Little Striped Dress image from A Day for Daisies. I colored it up with my watercolor markers. I paired it with a great sentiment from Create with TLC. Have you seen that blog? LOTS of wonderful FREE sentiments!

I wanted to give the background a little more pop, so I used my new Spiral Dots stencil from Dreamweaver. I focused the center of the stencil on the little girl, so that the dots would spiral out from her. You can see that they graduate in size as they go outward.

I inked up the edge of the card, as well as my sentiment, and I added some fun trim from May Arts. Also, I used some orange Stickles, so I can now use this card in the new A Day for Daisies Challenge which is to "add some glitter." Susan, a VERY happy birthday to you. I know things haven't been so easy lately, but I hope that this day brings you nothing but joy. Love you lots.

Below is the full list of hoppers giving Susan some well-wishes today. Susan is the last stop so please be sure to wish her a Happy Birthday!
Alison Heikkila - http://alisonsrandomthoughts.blogspot.com/ (That's me!)

This week, Wicked Wednesday is sponsored by Squigglefly, and our challenge is Fishing Fun. Squigglefly is sadly no longer in business, but they still offered up a prize to this week's winner.

I colored this cutie with my alcohol markers. My background was done in watercolors. I am happy with my sky....looks like this guy got up pretty early!

That fabulous trim is also from May Arts. I just LOVE that stuff! It reminded me (used with this image) of netting for fish. And, I was really happy to find my background paper after I had finished my image. The colors and look of it worked well with my background. I love when a project comes together easily. Please be sure to visit the rest of the Wicked Wednesday team. And don't forget to say hi to Susan! Thanks for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!

February Smeared & Smudged Sketch Challenge

The new Smeared & Smudged challenges are up and ready for you to participate in! I got instantly inspired by Kelli’s card sketch for the month, as I have been working with different ideas for my next “Tarot Card.” Haha! That’s actually pretty funny! If you’ve been checking in over the past couple of weeks, you may have seen my Misty Benson Tarot Set 1 ( Smeared Ink ) cards. I’ve used The World and The Fool so far. Today, I bring you Death. Don’t worry…it’s actually a joyful image…one that I intend to use a lot! First, here’s the sketch. I flipped it and changed the ribbon and embellishment a bit. Can I just start off by saying that it is quite nerve wracking to slice your image??? I have done it a few times in the past, but I always get butterflies when I attempt it again. I colored the image and the card itself using nothing but Distress Inks and my Cut-n-Dry Nibs. My skull button at the top has been colored with Alcohol Inks.   The colors look a little off ...

Two Huge Valentine’s Day Hops!

I am in not one, but two Valentine’s Day hops! Not bad for someone that doesn’t even like Valentine’s Day… The first is via Smeared & Smudged . It’s time for our monthly Member Blog Hop! The second was started by Taylor Usry . Please bear with me…this post is long because I am sharing 2 projects and the hop lists are huge. Let’s stat with Smeared & Smudged, shall we? My dear friend Alex and I collaborated on the theme for this month’s S&S Member Hop. Instead of making it a free-for –all, we decided to challenge our members a little…create something Valentine’s Day / love themed, but there is a catch.  Because we are Smeared and Smudged you can not use any of the following: No hearts No red or pink Nothing ‘cute’ unless you make it uncute of course :) Ok, so it’s not dark and scary…but it’s definitely not cute either. I used my colored pencils for the focal image.  It’s from Smeared Ink’s Smitten collection. The “pretty fly” is from the teir teen...
