Macabre Monday #36: Music Mayhem

I’m multi-tasking again! I was totally inspired to play along once again with Haunted Design House’s Macabre Monday. Barb’s challenge was to create something inspired by song lyrics. Awesome! In addition, as a Smeared and Smudged Design Team Member, each month we are to create at least on piece of altered art, and make something for a specific group that Terra assigns to us. This month, I got Rock-N-Rolla.  Cool! All these things work together! Now… what to make…what to make…

I’m on the Pill. Yup. Birth Control. So, I have a ton of these little yellow containers floating around, thus begging to be altered. I’ve been pondering this for quite some time now. Here’s what they look like un-altered:

Bo-ring! So I amped ‘em up! As many of you know, my favorite band is Type O Negative. Sadly, their frontman, Peter Steele passed away on April 14th from heart failure. Honestly, I’m pretty devastated about the whole thing. I was lucky enough to meet him and the rest of the band 2x, and I can’t even remember how many times I saw them in concert. He is greatly missed by many, and I am way up there on that list.

But back to my project. One of my favorite songs by TON is called Anesthesia, off their World Coming Down album. So I thought this was a perfect song to use as inspiration for these little containers. Oh, and let me mention, the color they used for everything is green. Album covers, t-shirts, logo… all green. Here’s my piece:

I painted the whole thing green and inked it a bit. Then, I stamped little pills all over it with Staz-On and put Amazing Glaze on top.

Inside, I made a mini book and wrote the lyrics to the song on it. On the book, I stamped the pills again, but this time I used Versa Mark ink so it would just have a subtle look.

There you have it! I would like to create more things with these pill boxes, but I haven’t figured out what yet. Hopefull, I will get inspired soon! Here are the lyrics to Anesthesia.

Like a flash of light in an endless night
Life is trapped between two black entities
'Cause when you trust someone
Illusion has begun
No way to prepare
Impending despair
Did one say so cruel
'Tis better to love and lose
Ignorance is bliss
Wish not knew your kiss
So many times been burned
This lesson goes unlearned
Remember desire only fuels the fire
Liar!
Betwixed birth and death
Every breath regret
I pity the living
Envy for the dead
Emotionally stunned
In defense - I'm numb
I'd rather not care then to be aware
Be scared
I don't need love
Are a thousand tears worth a single smile?
When you give an inch, will they take a mile?
Longing for the past but dreading the future
If not being used, well then you're a user and a loser
World renowned failure at both death and life
Given nothingness, purgatory blight
To run and hide, a cowardly procedure
Options exhausted, except for anesthesia
Anesthesia
I don't feel anything
I don't need anything
I don't need love

Thanks for visiting! Have an inspiring day!

You made me listen to Type O Negative. Because of their use of green I was very sure I wouldn't like their music. But well, I just listend to some songs, and I liked them.
Seems that I missed again an interesting band.

The altered pill box is great.

That sure is a creative way of altering something that otherwise would have been thrown out. Great work. Love the green.
Now, I've never heard of Type O Negative before but when I'm done commenting on everyone's entrees I will go to You Tube and listen to them.

Crazy inventive! It looks so cool!
I didn't know the frontman died...that's sad! Was he young?

I too have "stuff" that I just think is a shame not to try and do SOMETHING with. I had to quit drinking Crystal light because their little cups were overflowing out of the cupboard out onto the floor... I have tic tac and those damn gum boxes filling a hospital dishpan..... Does anyone need any of those foam trays the meat comes in???? ROFLMAO!! nahhhh just kidding, but I do feel your pain. Great project and fun entry. Oz

February Smeared & Smudged Sketch Challenge

The new Smeared & Smudged challenges are up and ready for you to participate in! I got instantly inspired by Kelli’s card sketch for the month, as I have been working with different ideas for my next “Tarot Card.” Haha! That’s actually pretty funny! If you’ve been checking in over the past couple of weeks, you may have seen my Misty Benson Tarot Set 1 ( Smeared Ink ) cards. I’ve used The World and The Fool so far. Today, I bring you Death. Don’t worry…it’s actually a joyful image…one that I intend to use a lot! First, here’s the sketch. I flipped it and changed the ribbon and embellishment a bit. Can I just start off by saying that it is quite nerve wracking to slice your image??? I have done it a few times in the past, but I always get butterflies when I attempt it again. I colored the image and the card itself using nothing but Distress Inks and my Cut-n-Dry Nibs. My skull button at the top has been colored with Alcohol Inks.   The colors look a little off to m

Christmas in July with Imagine Crafts & Stencil Girl!

Hello! Have you heard? The Imagine AIRs have been hopping with Stencil Girl! If you have been here before, you know I loooove me some stencils, so this collaboration was very exciting for me! The teams are hopping for 3 consecutive Saturdays, and this is week 2. I have the entire list of hop links at the bottom of the post. Be sure you don't miss anyone! I decided to to create an extra large gift tag with my new stencils. Using red cardstock, I taped down the Journal Texture #8 Stencil  and inked it up with Golden Glitz Delicata ink . I promise you, this is the BEST gold ink you will ever use! The Journal stamp only has 2 diamonds on it (it's a 4x4" stencil), so after I inked up the first pair, I moved over the stencil, lined it up, and inked again. Next I wanted to do something textural with the Urban Insiders Star . So I took some evergreen cardstock, taped down the star, and slathered on some yummy Iridescent Green Creative Medium . After the medium dried, I ga
