21st Century Pillow Book

There comes a point in a child’s life when they can finally rip off the bulky, hot diapers and don a nice pair of cotton scivvies. That time has come for my Phoenix. We are (hopefully) nearing the end of potty training, and he is proud to say that he owns some pretty rad underwear. So, being the scrappin’ mom that I am, I had to make a page about it! It is exactly as I envisioned it… which doesn’t always happen! My background paper is from Adorn It! and I used Prism for my plain cardstock. Cut out the letters with my Diesel QuicKutz font and added some American Crafts ribbon, EK Success stars, and of course, some staples. I just loved seeing all those little pairs of underwear hanging out on the laundry line… His heiny is so tiny! And he loves all of the characters he gets to wear…even though he doesn’t know who half of them are! I showed him this page this morning. And he just giggled. Hello! It’s Friday evening, and I’m starting to wind down for the night. But, I wanted to share a layout that I made today with all of you. I had taken this picture of Nix over the Summer. I just love it. He’s so thoughtful and handsome in it. His hair is long and fabulously messy, his little lips look like those of a cherub’s. I don’t even remember what he was looking at. He’s in our backyard looking at a plane perhaps. Maybe a bird… Or maybe he’s just pondering the wonders of the universe. I actually printed out the title and little poem I wrote. I haven’t done that in ages. I have some really incredible fonts, but by the time I pick one out, then pick a color, then get the paper in and size it all right… it’s like next year! But this time I was lucky. I found a font that was perfect really quickly, and the blue was actually a stock color! I added the stud swirls (from Prima) to give the page even more movement then what the fantastic butterflies are already doing. The background p...

I had pondered for quite some time trying to figure out what in the world to make Gene for our Anniversary. I even started a thread with my beloved Twi-Girls about it! They were such a huge help! Now, I am armed with some really great gift ideas! But, I decided in the end to make him a layout from our Wedding. I used two of my favorite pictures. Gene and I had a Handfasting Ceremony. Know the phrase “tying the knot?” Well, this is where it comes from! See how our hands are bound? Click on the photo to make it bigger! It symbolizes the union of two people. It is supposed to remain tied forever. Our knot is now in a shadowbox with our Wedding certificate. So that’s where the title comes from. The other photo of us I love too. It’s just pretty and romantic. Plus, I have on my gorgeous cape! These ribbons are actually from the Wedding! So, after my “Think Pink” Post I had put up last week, I had gotten a LOT of feedback about the photograph. Basically, everyone wanted to know what kind of camera I have and how I did it. I have a Cannon Powershot Digital Elph SD850IS. This is not some super expensive SLR or anything, just a regular Powershot. It is the second greatest gift my husband ever gave me (the first is my engagement ring!)! If you have a Cannon, you probably have the ability to do this nifty trick. Here is an examples of Color Accenting: Basically, you choose the color that you want accented in your photos. The rest is in black and white. Here, obviously, I chose the orange of the pumpkins. Here, I chose the red on Phoenix’s clothes. Again, I chose red. Now, because our skin has some pink pigmentation, the camera (depending on the light) will pick up some of that pigmentation. You can really see this on Rhiannon. So, how do you do it??? First, if I could take pics of my camera I would but… not ...

So I have been on a little bit of a break from my blog this week. My husband took a few days off from work so that we can do some family stuff, and we have just had a wonderful time! Yesterday we went to the Aquarium… a place that Phoenix just loves, and now Rhi does as well! Here is one of my favorite shots from the day: This huge turtle came right up to the glass and “gave” Phoenix a high-5! He was so excited! I kinda missed the exact moment when they “touched” but it’s a great photo anyway. We had a fantastic time this week. Took lots of great photos, made some amazing memories, smiled a ton of smiles. Family time rocks!

We have been enjoying the beautiful weather outside, and have had lots of wonderful photo opps within the past few days. So I decided to share some of them with you. Rhiannon is 7 months old now! I cannot believe it. She’s gonna be walking and talking sooner than I can imagine. And how COOL is her shirt? It is such an Alison shirt! I love it! And here is my boy. Playing with 2 of his favorite things. His sand box and his front end loader. And no, this was NOT done in hoto shop! It was done IN my camera! It’s a Cannon 850 digital elph. Love!!! Yes, Phoenix is climbing UP his slide. At 2 and a half! Is that normal??? Should he be able to do that already??? I think it’s hilarious! He just started doing it this week! And my Girl…ain’t she sweet? This is today. Again, growing so fast I can hardly stand it!!! You may see a little red mark by the shadow ade by his chin. My poor boy got stung by a wasp today! It is far too nice outside (finally!!!) to sit indoors. Since there is a bit of lovely wind, it precludes me from really getting any crafting done. But I wanted to post today anyway. Here, I am sharing some photos of a couple of lovely flowers I am lucky enough to have in my garden. I haven’t really been able to spend much time outside since it’s been raining as if we were in Forks here, but fortunately, I do have some lovely jewels around my home. Enjoy! This first flower is a Passion Flower. I have worked three years to get it to bloom! I purchased it with a couple of flowers on it… but after that, it never flowered again. I was so thrilled to see these beautiful and unusual blossoms. It’s a spectacular plant! Here is my proud and lovely Crystal Calla Lilly. For some reason, the very first bloom this plant produces each year is a double. One flower inside another. It’s pretty wild to see!
