21st Century Pillow Book

Hello! So nice of you to come for a visit! Today I am sharing June’s Bombshell Stamps Sketch with you. Kathi , once again created a wonderful sketch for us to work with, and hopefully you will play along with the Bombshell gals for your chance to win a prize at the end of the month! Here’s the sketch: I chose to work with the Hula Girl set. I created a card for my husband’s former boss who recently retired. Don’t you wish you were there? I sure do! I colored everything up with my watercolor markers, being sure to give my hula girl a pretty sun kissed glow. I am so loving this set. The volcano, the beautiful hibiscus…even the images not used on this card. I highly recommend this fun set! Speaking of hibiscus…that’s my favorite part of the card. I adore hibiscus flowers. 9 times out of 10, you’ll see a card or a layout here on my blog. But that’s not my first passion…my biggest obsession. Know what is? Jewelry! Oh how I love adorning thyself! There is no craft I love more than the art of fancying yourself up with assorted baubles and chains. And gems. And…stuff….  I actually have a silversmithing degree. But alas, my workshop is not exactly suitable for my kidlings (preschoolers and blow torches don’t exactly mix!) and my dear mom has had her Halloween decorations take up residence in it. So….my silver goes un-smithed.  However…I do have my beads. They’re in my craft room, and have easy access. I have about 16 boxes of beads…plus an assortment of bags. I have many, many beads. But again…tough to do with the kidlings. Not to mention the pup. But I needed to make something special for Phoenix’s teacher. You may remember me writing about her in THIS blog post. Yes, the whole class gives her a gift at the end of the year (ie: Thursday…yikes!)...

It’s Skull Appreciation Day! It all started at a little blog called Skull A Day . Here’s what they wrote about this new international holiday: “We here at Skull-A-Day have decided that there needs to be an official international day of cranial love! To that end we're starting a campaign to get June 4th ( the day Skull-A-Day started ) officially recognized as Skull Appreciation Day around the world in 2011, and of course to get as many people celebrating it as possible.” So, the members at Smeared & Smudged (Thanks Steph for starting it all!) decided it would be fun to do a massive member blog hop. Sometimes you just need something or someone to ground you. Sometimes life just kinda sucks…and you need to be pulled back to earth before you head explodes and your soul floats away. That was my yesterday. I called upon a couple of wonderful ladies to help me…one of which is depicted in the card below. Ahhh…the Earth Goddess. So grounding. So comforting. So warm. What thoughts and feelings does she evoke for you? Right now I want nothing more than to sit quietly in a forest. That’s all. Just me, a forest, and sitting. This image of the Earth Goddess is of course from Smeared Ink . I colored her with my watercolor markers. I left her “skin” linear and textured because I wanted it to be bark-like. The color in this pic is a bit wonky, but I wanted you to see it because it really shows the Glimmer Mist (Lily Pad) and the pretty sheen on the leaves in the corner. Isn’t she pretty? Happy Thursday! It’s time for Ward 2 of the Groovy Gurlz of StampInsanity to bring you a new challenge….and it is super easy! Anything goes!!! You’ve gotta be able to participate in this one! I made a Birthday card for my cousin Zac. I chose to work with Zeke (Zeke for Zac. Ha!). I colored him with my pencils. And I think he’s pretty stylin’! I paired him up with some Basic Grey paper that I have had in my stash. The Happy Birthday is of course from StampInsanity as well! Zeke is totally one of my favorite StampInsanity characters. He’s so chill. I love coloring his hair. Could’ja tell??? I kept the card pretty simple since it’s for a dude. I think he’ll like it. It’s the first of June (Wow! Can you believe it?), so that means it’s time for another Desert Island’s Crafter’s Challenge ! This time around, we went to one of our very own DT Members, Cyndi , for an itinerary. Cyndi's Itinerary: 1. Use glimmer Mist or similar 2. Orange 3. Something recycled 4. Pull out your scraps! 5. Chipboard 6. Anything but a card 7. 2+ images 8. Glitter or Bling 9. Pull out those chalks 10. A hand-made embellishment So what does all this mean? Easy! You have now been challenged to create a project using at least 3 of the items listed above. Then you can upload your creation to the DICC Blog . Now you have a chance at creating your very own itinerary for us to create with! I loved Cyndi’s list. It was thought provoking and unique. And, I am very happy with my finished project! Greetings! I am thrilled to bring you my very first post as a Burtonesque Doll ! I am totally honored to be a part of this awesome team. And what’s even cooler is that my sister Pam (you know her from Strange Skin ) is on the team too!!! Isn’t that rad?!?! On to the party! Here’s the challenge: “Monsters have taken of the chocolate factory! Today we challenge you to take your inspiration from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, but  Monster-ize it!
