21st Century Pillow Book

So, after my “Think Pink” Post I had put up last week, I had gotten a LOT of feedback about the photograph. Basically, everyone wanted to know what kind of camera I have and how I did it. I have a Cannon Powershot Digital Elph SD850IS. This is not some super expensive SLR or anything, just a regular Powershot. It is the second greatest gift my husband ever gave me (the first is my engagement ring!)! If you have a Cannon, you probably have the ability to do this nifty trick. Here is an examples of Color Accenting: Basically, you choose the color that you want accented in your photos. The rest is in black and white. Here, obviously, I chose the orange of the pumpkins. Here, I chose the red on Phoenix’s clothes. Again, I chose red. Now, because our skin has some pink pigmentation, the camera (depending on the light) will pick up some of that pigmentation. Ahhhh……… After a pondering for a long, long time, I finally made a card for the latest Color Throwdown Challenge. It, for some reason, was a real toughie for me. But, when the inspiration finally hit… everything fell in to place. The colors you needed to use this week were Kraft, Dark Brown, Olive Green and Dark Yellow. So my inspiration came from one of my favorite non-craft items… Paint Chips! Yup, my candy corn is a big ‘ol paint chip from Behr Paint. I use these a lot because they’re so wide. All of the cardstock is from Prism, and the stamps (inked with Staz-On) are from Cosmo Cricket. I also used Walnut Stain ink from Ranger and Amber Clay ink from Color Box. The paint chip has a bit of a sheen, so regular ink doesn’t really stick which is why I used the Staz-On. I am really happy that I got this card done. I was a bit worried that I wouldn’t get to participate this week because my ideas just weren’t working out. But I must say, I am quite happy with the end result. It’s a “...

I tried. I really did. I tried so hard. All I wanted to do was make one card for the latest Color Throwdown . But, my daughter just wouldn’t have it. No way. She was pretty unhappy today. I have no idea why. She just cried and cried. She’s not sick or anything… So, my card never got made. But, that’s why I am so glad I decided to post some of my “pre-blog” stuff up. I am trying to participate in several Challenges each week now. These challenges motivate me to have new ideas and forces me to find even a little bit of time, to get some of my many projects done. To clarify, it’s not that I don’t want to make stuff, it’s just really hard to find the time! You all know the drill I’m sure. Anyway, I am participating in the Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge for the first time. This week’s challenge is to “Think Pink” in honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She spends a lot of time at home, maybe not her home, but if the saying is true, it is home to her. This challenge is pretty simple. Being that Blogging is still fairly new for me, I have made many layouts and cards and things that were created way before my little blog ever existed. And I want you to see them! Ok, maybe not ALL of them, but some. I’ve got a few faves that I thought I would share with you when I didn’t have a new project to share. This is one from one of my many trips to Salem, Mass. It takes place in one of the graveyards there. No, I don’t normally hang out in graveyards, but there is just something about this one that I love. Maybe it’s the Salem Witch Trail history that lies there. Maybe it’s that insanely beautiful Oak tree that I make sure I climb when I’m there. Sunday was finally my Baby Girl’s Blessing Ceremony. It was pure magick. Several of you have been asking how it went, so I wanted to share some photos with you. I wanted to get them up sooner, but the photos taken with my camera didn’t come out so good, so I wanted to see my sister’s photos. Over the weekend, I’ll be getting some others from my Aunt, so I should have a nice collection soon. Maybe I’ll be able to put together a mini album! If I ever find time… :} The lighting in this room was weird, everyone seemed to have a tough time photographing it correctly. But here we are, the happy foursome! This is as the Godparents (my sis Pam, and my cousin Zac) were about to do their readings. Our Minister (Priestess) April, not only did Phoenix’s Blessing, but she also preformed our Wedding Ceremony! She is getting anointed with oils.
