Harry Potter, Steampunk, and a Shy Zombie

It’s a big day! There are so many things happening! The Funky Potters by Simply Betty are released today,  there is a new Desert Islands Crafters Challenge, and Smeared Ink has a HUGE release! So let’s just jump on in! First, let’s say hello to Harry…

Isn’t he cool? I think he is my favorite of all the releases this week. I love his owl!

I colored this image (that you can purchase starting today in the Simply Betty store) entirely with pencils. And it was so. Much. Fun! I loved using all of the grays and blacks on him.

I used some yellow Stickles as “magic” coming out of his wand. I wonder what spell he’s casting…?

On to the latest Desert Islands Crafters Challenge! this latest itinerary comes from a past winner, Sharon. Here’s her list:

1. Steampunk
2. Clocks
3. Monotone
4. Beads
5. Collage
6. Asian
7. Charms
8. Mystery
9. Die Cuts
10. Black & White

For my card, I used 1, 2, 5, 9, and 10.

I have had this Steampunk Bee from Sweet Pea Stamps for a while now, just waiting for the right moment to make an appearance. As soon as I saw this itinerary, I knew I had to use it!

I colored the bee with my watercolor markers. Take a look at the wings… I used pale shades of blue, green and pink to give them a sort of opalescent quality without using glitter. You can click on any of my photos to see them bigger.

I had a clock and gear collage stamp from Stampers Anonymous that I stamped once and then cut parts of it out. I had an old gear die that I used with mirror paper, to add a bit more sheen then what I already had on the bee (the gears were all colored with metallic ink). I left the cut out clock and gears, uncolored to get the ‘black and white” requirement (along with my ribbon). I used the 10th Deconstructed Sketch for this card too (can I just say that Jen’s sketches always kick a**?!?!) I flipped it on it’s side.

The Deconstructed Sketch No. 10

Now we are up to the Shy Zombie from Smeared Ink.

I got her with her new sentiment, and this is what I came up with.

She has been colored entirely with pencils, just like Harry. I had a little help from my Phoenix with this one. He wasn’t napping, and always likes to participate in my card making! he told me to make the drops on the side red. I was going to leave them clear. But he thought red was a much better idea. So I colored them with alcohol inks. He was quite pleased with the results!

Isn’t that fibrous paper I used pretty? I thought it was just perfect for this new image!

Now for all of the business. Again, all of the Funky Potters are available starting today in clear stamp form from Simply Betty. You can see more creations featuring Harry at The Burtonesque Dolls Blog. The Desert Islands Crafters Challenge requires you to use at least 3 things off of the itinerary, and you have 2 weeks to complete your project. For all of the deets, plus more inspiration, please visit the DICC blog. Smeared Ink’s new release is available in the store starting today. All sets are digi. The entire DT plus our GDT member, Steph, will be playing along. Please visit Terra’s Blog for all of the details. In addition, some of us will be debuting other images over the next few days, so please be sure to check back with me and my fellow S&S’ers. I think that’s about it! Whew! Thanks for stopping by. Have an inspiring day!

February Smeared & Smudged Sketch Challenge

The new Smeared & Smudged challenges are up and ready for you to participate in! I got instantly inspired by Kelli’s card sketch for the month, as I have been working with different ideas for my next “Tarot Card.” Haha! That’s actually pretty funny! If you’ve been checking in over the past couple of weeks, you may have seen my Misty Benson Tarot Set 1 ( Smeared Ink ) cards. I’ve used The World and The Fool so far. Today, I bring you Death. Don’t worry…it’s actually a joyful image…one that I intend to use a lot! First, here’s the sketch. I flipped it and changed the ribbon and embellishment a bit. Can I just start off by saying that it is quite nerve wracking to slice your image??? I have done it a few times in the past, but I always get butterflies when I attempt it again. I colored the image and the card itself using nothing but Distress Inks and my Cut-n-Dry Nibs. My skull button at the top has been colored with Alcohol Inks.   The colors look a little off to m

Christmas in July with Imagine Crafts & Stencil Girl!

Hello! Have you heard? The Imagine AIRs have been hopping with Stencil Girl! If you have been here before, you know I loooove me some stencils, so this collaboration was very exciting for me! The teams are hopping for 3 consecutive Saturdays, and this is week 2. I have the entire list of hop links at the bottom of the post. Be sure you don't miss anyone! I decided to to create an extra large gift tag with my new stencils. Using red cardstock, I taped down the Journal Texture #8 Stencil  and inked it up with Golden Glitz Delicata ink . I promise you, this is the BEST gold ink you will ever use! The Journal stamp only has 2 diamonds on it (it's a 4x4" stencil), so after I inked up the first pair, I moved over the stencil, lined it up, and inked again. Next I wanted to do something textural with the Urban Insiders Star . So I took some evergreen cardstock, taped down the star, and slathered on some yummy Iridescent Green Creative Medium . After the medium dried, I ga
