C is for Cupcake!

Hello All!!! This is my 200th blog post! And I don’t know if you know, but as of April 4th, I have been blogging for 1 year!!! Totally crazy! I have to say that I am really happy that I was gently shoved ;} into the wide world of blogging. I have made some truly wonderful friends, and I am inspired by so much creativity! So how about you fulfill a bloggy wish of mine??? Leave me some love! Please don’t be a lurker! Let me know what you think! Even constructive criticism is welcome! Knowing that you are not only “following” me but you’re actually reading my posts is so important to me! If you’re not there, then who am I writing for??? Thanks everyone!!!

This past Saturday was my husband’s birthday. I threw him a teeny little surprise party…and he sure was surprised! I am so thrilled that it went off so well. There was a lot of crazy delish food that we cooked, my family was zany as usual, and the weather was pure perfection. It was a wonderful day, and a great time was had by all.

So today, I wanted to share the card I made for him with you. I was inspired by the Stair Step card I had made for one of the StampInsanity challenges. My husband loved that card. He thought it was so cool… so I figured I would make him his own Stair Step Card!

We wnet with a Southern-Style menu for the party. And instead of a regular birthday cake, I asked my sis Pam to make him red velvet cupcakes (I totally ran out of time to do it myself!). Hence the use of the cupcake stamp. This set is from Bam Pop! and many of you know how much I love them. Isn’t this little cupcake adorable??? It reminds me of a book I took out of the library for the kids called Cupcake. Who-da guessed, I know! It’s a really adorable story! I forget the author…but parents and teachers should totally read this book! But I digress…

I used some Rhonna Farrer swirls from Autumn Leaves to stamp around the little cupcake. It’s hard to see, but one of the swirls is actually on a transparency.  I added some Stickles for some more pop.

Please click on any of the images for a closer look! There’s a bunch of Glimmer Mist used, as well as some misc stamps and a punch. Would you believe that it’s actually a Mickey Mouse head? Just by turning it ever so slightly, it just looks like a cool, swirly punch!

And here’s is me and the Birthday Boy! Don’t ya love my crepe paper headband??? Happy Birthday, Gene!!!

February Smeared & Smudged Sketch Challenge

The new Smeared & Smudged challenges are up and ready for you to participate in! I got instantly inspired by Kelli’s card sketch for the month, as I have been working with different ideas for my next “Tarot Card.” Haha! That’s actually pretty funny! If you’ve been checking in over the past couple of weeks, you may have seen my Misty Benson Tarot Set 1 ( Smeared Ink ) cards. I’ve used The World and The Fool so far. Today, I bring you Death. Don’t worry…it’s actually a joyful image…one that I intend to use a lot! First, here’s the sketch. I flipped it and changed the ribbon and embellishment a bit. Can I just start off by saying that it is quite nerve wracking to slice your image??? I have done it a few times in the past, but I always get butterflies when I attempt it again. I colored the image and the card itself using nothing but Distress Inks and my Cut-n-Dry Nibs. My skull button at the top has been colored with Alcohol Inks.   The colors look a little off to m

Christmas in July with Imagine Crafts & Stencil Girl!

Hello! Have you heard? The Imagine AIRs have been hopping with Stencil Girl! If you have been here before, you know I loooove me some stencils, so this collaboration was very exciting for me! The teams are hopping for 3 consecutive Saturdays, and this is week 2. I have the entire list of hop links at the bottom of the post. Be sure you don't miss anyone! I decided to to create an extra large gift tag with my new stencils. Using red cardstock, I taped down the Journal Texture #8 Stencil  and inked it up with Golden Glitz Delicata ink . I promise you, this is the BEST gold ink you will ever use! The Journal stamp only has 2 diamonds on it (it's a 4x4" stencil), so after I inked up the first pair, I moved over the stencil, lined it up, and inked again. Next I wanted to do something textural with the Urban Insiders Star . So I took some evergreen cardstock, taped down the star, and slathered on some yummy Iridescent Green Creative Medium . After the medium dried, I ga
