Skull Appreciation Day 2012!

It's June 4th! Know what that means??? It's Skull Appreciation Day! Today is the day that you can celebrate all things about the cranium! It all started at the Skull-A-Day web site. You can learn all about this fantastic blog, and this fun celebration HERE. I am participating in 2 skull celebration hops. One for Smeared & Smudged, and one for Bombshell Stamps. I played along with the S&S Skull hop last year, and it was loads of fun. Check out that post HERE.

So since I am in 2 hops, I made 2 projects! Both featuring Bombshell Stamps though. They have some fab-u-licious skulls!!! The first project is a card featuring the Sugar Skulls set.

I used the largest stamp in this set, and with Phoenix's direction, I colored it in with lots of bright, cheery colors.

The sentiment is also from the Sugar Skulls set. I tried to keep it very un-goth. No black (except for the outline). All happy colors.

For my next project, I went with a pendant. Now admittedly, this didn't turn out quite as good as I would have hoped. I clear embossed my images (from the Man's Ruin and Homeward Bound sets), and then colored the pendant, which is made of wood, with Distress Inks.

I topped the whole pendant off with Glossy Accents. From this view it looks fine, but when the light hits it a certain way, the images seem to disappear, and it's just a blur of color. I think next time, I won't emboss with clear. I'll use an actual color.

I still like it though. I'll wear it. Perhaps do up the other side differently. I am certainly inspired to experiment more. This was a lot of fun to make, I just wish the end result was a wee bit better. So there are my two projects! I hope you liked them. I always enjoy working with skulls. As I really do appreciate mine. ;)

Now, are you ready for this? It's a super huge hop! Get ready for Smeared & Smudged hop list!
Alison (that's me!)

There are prizes to be won on some of the participants blogs, so be sure to show everyone some love. All of the details will be on Terra's Blog, the first stop of the hop. And for the Bombshell Hop, why not head on over there to see what some of the other team members have created? You are surly going to love everything that you see! Thanks for stopping by! Have a very skully day!!!

The pendant is cool because there's a sort of ghostly effect from your techniques.
Gorgeous card Alison, beautiful colouring (as always) and your pendant is to die for! :)
That card looks so right with the bright colours - it is a celebration after all! That pendant is awesome and I like the idea of mysteriously disappearing images, lol. TFS xx

I personally love the pendant. You say it wasn't how you wanted it to be, but I find it perfect. It's incredible, I love it. The card is amazing as well. Love the use of color for the skull, which normally attract gloomy colors

I LOVE the sugar skull card! Thanks for sharing. I have a new stamp company to check out now. (I could be in trouble by the time I get through the blog list.)

I like your pendant too. I can't see any problems with it. Good job.

Beautiful pendant and I love the colors on your card. I find it hard to get jewelry to always come out the way you want it to. I think you did a wonderful job.

Wonderful projects! I love the brighter color of the card, so cheery. And the pendant is way cool, i think it's neat that the image disappears - it's like one of those fancy hologram things :)

Christmas in July with Imagine Crafts & Stencil Girl!

Hello! Have you heard? The Imagine AIRs have been hopping with Stencil Girl! If you have been here before, you know I loooove me some stencils, so this collaboration was very exciting for me! The teams are hopping for 3 consecutive Saturdays, and this is week 2. I have the entire list of hop links at the bottom of the post. Be sure you don't miss anyone! I decided to to create an extra large gift tag with my new stencils. Using red cardstock, I taped down the Journal Texture #8 Stencil  and inked it up with Golden Glitz Delicata ink . I promise you, this is the BEST gold ink you will ever use! The Journal stamp only has 2 diamonds on it (it's a 4x4" stencil), so after I inked up the first pair, I moved over the stencil, lined it up, and inked again. Next I wanted to do something textural with the Urban Insiders Star . So I took some evergreen cardstock, taped down the star, and slathered on some yummy Iridescent Green Creative Medium . After the medium dried, I ga

Remembering Aletha

Greetings, Friends. This post today is part of a very special blog hop. We are celebrating the life of an amazingly talented artist and friend. The crafting community lost Aletha Jane Williams on May 5, 2019. Those of us that worked with her on Design Teams or on Challenge Blogs all agree that she was one of the sweetest and most talented women we knew. We are not here to mourn her loss though. This hop is happening in conjunction with a very special celebration of her life and her art that her husband Bob is holding in her home city of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Please join us in honoring our incredibly creative friend Aletha . My card features the "Remembering Aletha" Sprite, which Mitzi (owner and artist of Aurora Wings ) created specifically for this hop. She is generously giving the digi away to all, over on her blog. This sweet Sprite looks so much like Aletha, and I know she would have been honored. If you download this digi for yourself, please be sure to give a huge "
