Grave Hands Pendant: Day 13 of 31 Days of Halloween

Ok. By now you should all now just how damn talented the Wicked Bloggers of 31 Days are. Sick. Everyday I get a ton of creep-tastic inspiration, and it’s hard to decided which idea to do first. Well, I am always extremely inspired by Black Dragon, who I am proud to say, is now on 2 Design Teams with me! Not just Smeared & Smudged, but StampInsanity as well. And the inspiration never fails to come when I am looking at her blog. Well, guess who inspired this piece???

Grave-Hands-Pendant-1

On Monday, Black Dragon showed us an incredible piece of art jewelry that she created using a domino and a digi image of Frankenstein from Strange Skin. Well, The piece blew my mind! And, being a silversmith/beader….that’s pretty damn good!

It’s been a few days since I used a Strange Skin image (and let’s be realistic, I wanna show off my sister and her boyfriend’s amazing digis as much as I can!), so I knew it was time to play with one. If you recall, I had made a Zombie Box (which Jorge named the Zombox) using this image. I had printed it out a few times to see which size I liked best for the box. This was one of my rejects.

So I colored it in using my colored pencils and then I cut it out. I grabbed a domino (given to me by Kathi!), and inked it with 3 colors of alcohol ink, to kind of give it a dirty, zombie-esq look. Grave-Hands-Pendant-2

I Mod Podged the hell out of it, but in a matte finish. Not glossy. Then was the tough part. How was I going to attach it to a necklace? Now again, I AM a silversmith. I have a degree in it. I have been an avid beader my entire life. But, I am way out of practice. So, I dusted off my box of Wild Wire (copper wire that has been coated in asst. colors), grabbed some of my beloved pliers, and started to play. I wanted to give it that sort of plate hanger look (you know what I mean right?)…which I did, but I still needed a loop at the top.

Grave-Hands-Pendant-3

So after screwing around with it for a little while, and looking through some really old coils I had made, I came up with what you see in the top photo. Please feel free to click on any of the pics to see them bigger. It’s kinda messy (which I like), and kinda haphazard (which I also like). Now all I need to do is make a necklace for it. And tonight is not that night. But as soon as I do (And I truly hope I can do it really soon…like this week.), I will photograph it for you to see.

As it stands now, I think it’s pretty rad. And I think Pam and Jorge will like it too. Black Dragon, since you were the inspiration behind this piece, I am itching to know what YOU think! And of course, the rest of you out there! Make sure you check out the rest of the Wicked Bloggers…posted on my sidebar. I hope I inspired you today! ;}

Wow, you know I have been so inspired by everything I have seen on this blog hop, now I need to mess up a domino :)
What a wonderful way of promoting the stamp set. The domino looks really good inked this way and the method of attaching the hanging method is inspired. Love it

***Sorry for the late posting....Blogger doesn't always play nice! Today is the first day of our  ADFD Blog Hop  - a celebration of all of the beautiful images Tammy has created over the years. Christmas in July with Imagine Crafts & Stencil Girl!

Hello! Have you heard? The Imagine AIRs have been hopping with Stencil Girl! If you have been here before, you know I loooove me some stencils, so this collaboration was very exciting for me! The teams are hopping for 3 consecutive Saturdays, and this is week 2. I have the entire list of hop links at the bottom of the post. Be sure you don't miss anyone! I decided to to create an extra large gift tag with my new stencils. Using red cardstock, I taped down the Journal Texture #8 Stencil  and inked it up with Golden Glitz Delicata ink . I promise you, this is the BEST gold ink you will ever use! The Journal stamp only has 2 diamonds on it (it's a 4x4" stencil), so after I inked up the first pair, I moved over the stencil, lined it up, and inked again. Next I wanted to do something textural with the Urban Insiders Star . So I took some evergreen cardstock, taped down the star, and slathered on some yummy Iridescent Green Creative Medium . After the medium dried, I ga

Remembering Aletha

Greetings, Friends. This post today is part of a very special blog hop. We are celebrating the life of an amazingly talented artist and friend. The crafting community lost Aletha Jane Williams on May 5, 2019. Those of us that worked with her on Design Teams or on Challenge Blogs all agree that she was one of the sweetest and most talented women we knew. We are not here to mourn her loss though. This hop is happening in conjunction with a very special celebration of her life and her art that her husband Bob is holding in her home city of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Please join us in honoring our incredibly creative friend Aletha . My card features the "Remembering Aletha" Sprite, which Mitzi (owner and artist of Aurora Wings ) created specifically for this hop. She is generously giving the digi away to all, over on her blog. This sweet Sprite looks so much like Aletha, and I know she would have been honored. If you download this digi for yourself, please be sure to give a huge "
