It’s Not August Yet!

Ok…So I didn’t quite wait until the 11th hour here did I? Plus, I’m doing TWO projects at once here! What am I talking about? Well, for one, I had not yet made the July Twilight Tuesday Sketch Challenge… and since it’s only July 30th… I figured I should get it done before August actually gets here. Second, I wanted to make at least one more project this week using one of the stamps from Dragonflycurls. Remember… she hand carves her stamps! I love that! So here’s my card…

IMG_5950 It’s pretty gilded… I don’t normally use much gold (being the silversmith that I am!) but I had a need to do something shiny and metallic. So, I used these scraps (I love using scraps!) and put this baby together.

IMG_5952 The red paper is from The Paper Company, and the metallics are from Prism. The fiber is from EK Success and I inked the edges with Antique Linen Distress Ink. It’s hard to see in the photos, but everything is really metallic except for the oval that actually says Twilight.

So, that’s it! I’m looking forward to August’s Challenge… and I’m hoping I don’t wait until the end again!!!

And here is the special bonus challenge for you:

What team do you play for? Team Edward or Team Jacob? Are you still loyal to your original team? Or have you switched sides? Or do you play for both teams now? Let’s show some love for the boys ladies! Fangs or fur, vamp bites or dog breath? Have the trailers for New Moon maybe changed your opinion of who you used to like? Come on now…be honest!

Sincere thanks to goes out to Audra from all of us at Twilight Tuesday. We’re really happy to collaborate with dragonflycurls for this fun challenge!

Our Design Team has played along with challenge today – visit their blogs to see their creations!

Alison ~ Beth ~Dani ~Donna ~ Eve ~ Jacquie~ Jen ~ Julie ~(Filling in for Margie is…..Erica)~ Tonya

Please join in and play along with us and leave a comment with your link!

So here is my project:

Bella's Lullaby 011 Sometimes, your materials just make the project for you. Sometimes, your materials are just so good, that you don’t really have to do a whole lot of work. That was the case with this card! My awesome stamp from Dragonflycurls along with this piece of scrap paper from who-knows-where practically assembled itself into this really majestic card.

I love how the flourishes remind me of the lion’s tail. The colors, of his mane. Yeah, I’m totally Team Edward… but I do have love for Jacob. Here’s a close-up of my Dragonflycurls stamp:

Bella's Lullaby 010 I stamped it with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. The wording and shadow I did with my watercolor markers. The rest… well the rest is on the paper! Like I said, with the right combination of materials, your projects can practically make themselves!

So, I am really inspired by this challenge to make more “Team” stuff. Hopefully, I’ll have a chance to do some more fun cards in the vein of this challenge! But for now, this Team Edward card certainly does the job of showing which side I’m on!

TTIC #40 Blue

This week’s Twilight Tuesday Challenge has been thought up by Jen. Here is her challenge:

Blue. Edward loves Bella in blue.

"That color blue looks lovely with your skin," he said, watching me. I was surprised; I looked down, flushing, of course.

So this week the challenge is simple... create anything you want focusing on the color blue. Twilight related? Well that's up to you.
Comment challenge... What's your favorite color to wear and why?

So here is a simple little layout that I made of Phoenix and his “Blue.”

IMG_5775 He calls his blanket Blue. He loves this blanket so much. You know how it is when you have a favorite blanket… Well, this is his. And I can’t blame him. It is divinely soft and cozy! Wish it were big enough for me!

IMG_5771 I especially loves when he wraps it around his face! He looks ridiculous and adorable! I kept this layout pretty basic. I didn’t want to add too much “stuff.” Thought it would take away from the simple charm of a boy and his blanket. Used my favorite markers as usual, doodled in some swirls, did a bit of journaling… quick little rub-on in the corner and a title. Plus, mattes and a corner of Coredinations paper. Simple. Cute. To the point.

For the comment challenge… my favorite color to wear??? That is a toughie… although for those of you that actually KNOW me, you’d probably think it’s a no-brainer! I guess my absolute fave would be black. Yes, I am still a goth chic at heart, even though the clothes don’t quite fit yet after having Rhiannon… But they will soon!!! Aside from black, I love to wear Teal. Teal looks good on me. Works real well with my skin and hair. Plus, it’s my fave color. I also love to wear purple and red. Cobalt blue is nice too… Ooh! And for fun, i love to wear flaming hot, obnoxious pink. Faboo! Did I answer the question….?

Now run and check out the other Design Team Member’s projects!

Beth ~ Dani ~ Eve ~ Jen ~ Julie ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

(Beth, Margie and Tonya are on break this week.)

with Guest Designers:

Alison ~ Donna ~Erica ~ Jacquie

Please make sure you give Erica a warm welcome! She’ll be a Guest Designer through August.

Then, create your own “Blue.” Go! Run! Hurry! Then post it up so we can check it out and leave you great comments! Hey! Don’t forget to leave me some too!

Breaking Dawn Swap Tags

So I am participating in my very first swap. Of course, it is Twilight related. My friend (and I am proud to say she’s my friend) Tia is hosting this swap on Split Coast Stampers. I’m taking part in a couple of the categories. The first of which is “tags.” They’re supposed to be 3x3, but I just had to use my little Edward stamp again so the tags need to be a little bigger than 3”. Here’s my little creation:

Bella's Lullaby 008 I also used stamps from Artful INKables…just can’t get enough of those either!

Bella's Lullaby 009 I colored Edward in using my EK markers, except for his skin, which I used a pearlized hard pastel. It’s hard to see in a photo. And his eyes are sparkly because I used Sakura’s Jelly Roll Stardust pen in a topaz color. A little bit ‘o Stickles, some layering and ta-da! A cute little tag that I hope whatever swappers receive it, will enjoy.

TTIC #39: Your Everything

I am SOOOO excited about this week’s challenge! Why? Because it’s MY challenge! As I Guest Designer for Twilight Tuesday (gosh- that never gets old!), I got the opportunity to create a challenge during my term. Well folks, here it is! This one’s a thinker kids!

It’s no secret that Breaking Dawn is my favorite book in the series. So, now that it’s my turn to create a challenge (which I am SO excited about!), of course I would pull something from that book!

Spoiler Alert! If you haven’t read Breaking Dawn, then stop reading this post and pick up that book! Then, you can come back and read the post, and complete the challenge! :-D

One of the things I love the most about Breaking Dawn are Jacob’s chapter titles. They’re hilarious!

My favorite is: “What do I look like? The Wizard of Oz? You Need a Brain? You Need a Heart? Go Ahead. Take Mine. Take Everything I Have.” Chapter 17, page 329

This chapter title perfectly depicts what Jacob is going through but in a sarcastic, tough, Jacob kinda way. So, here’s the scoop. We’ve all been on the giving and receiving end of many things, and I’m not talking about presents. We have given our “all” (or someone has given us their “all” for us) just because we love them so much. Jacob loves Bella with everything he has and would give it all to her because of it. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for her; that’s definitely made clear in this chapter!

Comment portion: Who have you given your all to? Your kids? Your best friend? Who’s given their all to you? Your parents? A doctor? Tell us about that special relationship where someone has gone as far as they could with the gift of themselves.

Project portion: Show us who has given you their everything or who you’ve given your everything to. Make a layout showing it, or a card to give that person, or even a gift just to say “thanks” or “I love you with all that I have.”

Try to play along with us! For all the details, visit Twilight Tuesday!

And as always, our Design Team has fantastic projects to display for this week’s challenge – please go and check them out!

Dani ~ Eve ~ Jen ~ Julie ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

And here is my project:

IMG_5631 My Everything is my Mom. She’s amazing.

IMG_5627 I used Paintables Paper from Prima and colored them in with my EK Watercolor markers.

IMG_5629 Here’s what I wrote:

“I know of no one else who would do so much, try so hard, work so feverishly to make sure her family is taken care of and happy. Her sacrifices go beyond anything I could ever repay. Her heart is bottomless. She worships us- her daughters, her grandchildren. She would give us the world, and she has. No one has or ever could do more for us. She is my Mom and she is My Everything.”

My Mom has been through so much. Ever since my Dad passed away 8 long years ago, her would (and ours) has been pretty upside down. Times have been tough on all fronts. Of course, we have our joys, my wedding, my babies, our store, etc. But she is the person who has tried to hold her chin up as high as she could and put on a happy face for us all. She is determined to laugh, to succeed, to live, even if it’s just vicariously through the kids. She has given us so much, and I know that she always will… ‘cause she’s our Mom. Our Grandmama. She will always be there for us, and do everything (and I mean everything!) for me, my sisters, and my kids. She is the Peacekeeper, the Laughter, the Pirate Queen, the best Mom I could ever hope for. I love her to pieces, and just hope that she knows it.

Little Edward Card

Ok, so I’m sure that many of you had seen the card I made for the extra TTIC challenge last week. If not, then go to last Wednesday’s blog to check it out! I had mentioned that I had already colored in another Edward image from The Greeting Farm that I also wanted to use in a card. Well, I finally got a chance to finish it this weekend. Here he is!

IMG_5632 Excuse the shadow. It’s dark out now, and I just wanted to get this post up… so I had to take the photo in crummy light. But ain’t he cute???

IMG_5633 Here’s a close up. See those numbers? Those are the pencil color’s identifying numbers for his hair. I didn’t want to forget which I used, and I am a huge Paint Chip fanatic (you should see some of the cards I made with Paint Chips! Hmmmm, another blog post for another day), so I decided to actually attach the colors to the card! This way, I’ll always know what I used! I had planned on keeping this one anyway. Plus, you may notice a line going down poor little Edward’s face. I am an ass. I should know by now that 10:30 PM is NOT the time I should be crafting! I was slicing a piece of the denim paper and Woopsie!. Cut the poor fella nearly in half.

IMG_5634 Another close up, showing off the other stamps that I used. Hey Julie! That’s the “e” from the blog candy I won from you! It’s rad! So, besides my ridiculous screw up with my paper trimmer, I love how Edward came out. When I had first seen this stamp online, this was exactly how I pictured him being colored. I think he’s so cool. And I am totally inspired to color him in lots of other ways… Stay tuned!

Oh, and by the way… You MUST(!!!) check my blog tomorrow! I am creating this week’s Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge!!! How cool is that?!?!? See ya tomorrow!

Photo Phriday

We have been enjoying the beautiful weather outside, and have had lots of wonderful photo opps within the past few days. So I decided to share some of them with you.

IMG_5412 Rhiannon is 7 months old now! I cannot believe it. She’s gonna be walking and talking sooner than I can imagine. And how COOL is her shirt? It is such an Alison shirt! I love it!

IMG_5486 And here is my boy. Playing with 2 of his favorite things. His sand box and his front end loader. And no, this was NOT done in hoto shop! It was done IN my camera! It’s a Cannon 850 digital elph. Love!!!

IMG_5496 Yes, Phoenix is climbing UP his slide. At 2 and a half! Is that normal??? Should he be able to do that already??? I think it’s hilarious! He just started doing it this week! And my Girl…ain’t she sweet?

IMG_5608 This is today. Again, growing so fast I can hardly stand it!!! You may see a little red mark by the shadow ade by his chin. My poor boy got stung by a wasp today! It flew in to his shirt! Luckily, it flew right out, but of course stung little Nix along the way. He was terrified. But, a trooper none the less. Hence, the bit of sadness in his eyes in this pic.

So, there they are. My babies. Have you gotten outside lately? how is the weather by you? It is just beautiful here, and I am so glad we get to be enjoying it together!

Bonus TTIC! Collaboration with The Greeting Farm!

Ooh! I am so excited about this! Twilight Tuesday is thrilled to announce that we are collaborating with The Greeting Farm! Have you seen their ADORABLE stamps??? Now, I’ll be honest, I’m not usually a fan of super cutsie things.. but this company has won me over! Margie (one of the TTIC designers) introduced me to this company (via her blog) a short time ago. She had featured her Anya stamps, and gave us a peek at a super fantastic little Edward stamp! I fell in love with him! He was so great! Well, needless to say, I now am a proud owner of the little Edward (thanks so much Marie!).

So, we now give you a special Twilight Tuesday Challenge! We were to create something using The Greeting Farm’s Edward and by using the colors black, red and white (or silver). These are the colors that most Twilight Fanatics (including myself) use on their projects. Here’s what I created!

IMG_5406 Now tell me… can you resist this little fella??? I can’t!

IMG_5408 I love his outfit too! It’s so hip!

IMG_5407 Lots ‘o layers!

So. I colored Edward in with colored pencils (Spectracolor) sans his pinstripes which I used a silver EK marker. The paper is from Reminisce and Time Flies. I am thrilled with how this card came out. Exactly as I wanted it. And this little stamp is pretty inspiring… I actually had hoped to have another card to show you today (Edward is already stamped and colored in) but I ran out of time…plus, he’s not i the unofficial Twi-colors… so I’ll just post it another time.

So why are these 3 colors what have dominated the Twilight crafting world? In my humble opinion, it obviously starts off with the book covers. But beyond that, I think that the red is pretty obvious as a proper color given (hello!) the color of blood. Black and white? Time tested best friends of red… the trio works so well together. Plus, white… the pale color of vamp skin. Black… night, gothic, mysterious. Really, they’re the best colors to use! Although, I do love it when it’s switched up and we get an unexpected color combo! But I must say, red black and white have always been a combo I have gravitated towards. Especially in clothes. So? What’s your take on all this? Post something at Twilight Tuesday! And, be sure to check out all of the other designer’s awesome projects too! Until next time… Twi Hard!!!

TTIC #38 The Honeymoon

If you did not complete the Twilight Saga… then STOP READING!!! Tons of spoilers are in this post, and I don’t want to ruin it for you. But, why the heck haven’t you finished the series yet?!?!?

This week’s Challenge is brought to us by Dani, my buddy who loves NCIS just like I do! Anyway, here’s the scoop!

I’m nothing if not thorough.
Edward Cullen, Breaking Dawn, Chapter 5, pg.78

The Challenges:

Craft – Make something that you feel represents Bella and Edward’s honeymoon.

Comment – Tell us about your honeymoon (no personal details please!). Did you go somewhere or see something special? Or did you just hide out from the world and enjoy being with your new spouse?
If you haven’t been on a honeymoon, that is ok! What is your dream honeymoon?

For my honeymoon, Gene and I went to St. Martin. It was so beautiful there. And the food…oh the food… I will never forget how my taste buds danced! We were there for 6 days, and we had such a fantastic time! We bought our first digital camera there, we ate, I bought some really cool clothes, we explored many of the beaches, we ate, explored the island in our rented jeep… and we ate.

One of my absolute favorite memories that I have with Gene is ate a restaurant (big surprise huh?) called Bliss. It was a fairly new place and it was right on the water. Like, watch where you’re going or you’ll fall 15 feet down into the ocean! Anyway, the food was to die for (I even tried crab cakes! No, I didn’t like ‘em but at least I tried it!), the music was fantastic (we actually spoke to the owner about it… when we got home we bought the CD! Putumaya’s World Groove…it’s amazing.), but the coolest, and kinda scary thing about it was the airplanes. Picture this… you’re sitting above the water, at the edge of the outdoor restaurant. All you see is black to one side of you. You know there’s water out there, because you can hear it… but you see NOTHING. All of a sudden you see 2 tiny lights. They get closer. Closer. You hear an airplane. Al of a sudden, as you take a swig of your sparkling water, an airplane flies right at you from the blackness that is the sea. I cannot describe it well enough. There’s blac, and then there’s a plane. Oh and by the way, it’s landing, so the thing is almost close enough for you to reach out and touch someone. It was as if the plane was going to land on top of us. Scary and awe-inspiring, and amazing. That night really was pure Bliss. That restaurant is aptly named.

P1010004 We’re a little crispy, but we had such a blast! I think this is actually the night we went to Bliss.

P1010017

For my craft portion… I made a card that the new Mr. and Mrs. Cullen might have sent to their family, had Bella not discovered that she was spawning (as I affectionately call it!).

IMG_5403

I used Patina Glimmer Mist all over the card and then Copper Glimmer Mist on just the bottom to represent sand. I stamped a tone on tone feather a few times and added a dash of Crystal Stickles to the center. Then I stamped Greetings from Isle Esme with my Artful INKables stamps. I used my EK Success Watercolor markers for the stamps, and te little bit of detailing that I did. Here’s a close up shot.

IMG_5405

And another.

IMG_5404

I like the soft look of the card. It’s very tranquil, like I would imagine Isle Esme would be. And, I suppose I don’t need to remind you what the feathers are about!!!

As always, our Design Team has fantastic projects to display for this week’s challenge – please go and check them out!

Summer Splendor

It is far too nice outside (finally!!!) to sit indoors. Since there is a bit of lovely wind, it precludes me from really getting any crafting done. But I wanted to post today anyway. Here, I am sharing some photos of a couple of lovely flowers I am lucky enough to have in my garden. I haven’t really been able to spend much time outside since it’s been raining as if we were in Forks here, but fortunately, I do have some lovely jewels around my home. Enjoy!

Bella's Lullaby 004

Bella's Lullaby 005

This first flower is a Passion Flower. I have worked three years to get it to bloom! I purchased it with a couple of flowers on it… but after that, it never flowered again. I was so thrilled to see these beautiful and unusual blossoms. It’s a spectacular plant!

Bella's Lullaby 006

Bella's Lullaby 007

Here is my proud and lovely Crystal Calla Lilly. For some reason, the very first bloom this plant produces each year is a double. One flower inside another. It’s pretty wild to see! What’s really great about this particular variety of Calla, is that as the flowers age, the color changes from white to pale pink to a dark pink. It’s so pretty!

Bella’s Lullaby Necklace

Well, folks, I got a lot of wonderful feedback last week when I blogged about the Twilight Necklace I made. Here’s the LINK if you missed it. So, I decided to make another necklace… I actually really wanted to anyway, since the beading bug has bitten me again. Plus, I still had Pam’s charms so…

Bella's Lullaby 001

Here’s my latest creation. Most Twi-stuff is depicted in red, black and white, but the movie had such a blue cast to it, I decided to use that as my color inspiration.

Bella's Lullaby 003You can see here that it’s got a tiny photo of Edward and Bella, during the piano scene, in a bottle cap.

I put 5 little charms on the chain, plus another hanging off the back of the piece. I lovBella's Lullaby 002e the colors, and I really like the combination of sizes and textures of all of the elements I used. I even listed it on my Etsy Shop so that if you want it to be yours, it can be! I plan on making more of these little babies, but if there’s a specific scene that YOU want to wear around your neck, let me know and Pam and I will create a custom necklace just for you! And please, give me some feedback on this guys. I’d like to know if this is a good route to explore for selling. Thanks everybody!!!

TTIC Make-Up Week

Hey everybody! Because of the Holiday, TTIC is taking a break from releasing a new challenge this week. Instead, it’s going to be a catch up week, which is great because there are definitely some challenges I wanted to do but couldn’t for one reason or another. So, I decided to use Beth’s Challenge from May 26th: Favorite New Moon Quote. Click on the title to check out the original posting. Here’s the quote I chose:

“Before you, Bella, my life was alike a moonless night. Very dark, but there were stars- points of light and reason. …And then you shot across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly, everything was on fire; there was brilliancy, there was beauty. “ -New Moon pg. 514

And here’s my project.

Picture 001

Picture 002

Picture 003

I have been on a mega jewelry kick lately, and all I wanna do is make necklaces, so I thought that I could translate my quote into a piece of wearable homage to Twilight. I used a beautiful piece of dichroic glass for my interpretation of Bella as the meteor. The starlight sky is the glimmering eyelash yarn. There are actually sheer, shiny threads throughout the yarn. It always reminded me of a shimmering night sky. I then added a couple of iridescent beads and 2 stars (one of which is a warm butterscotch color…for Edward’s eyes!) I made the beads hang asymmetrically, ‘cause that’s what I prefer in general. I think that the materials accurately depicts what Edward is saying in this lovely paragraph. The dichroic pendant really is the fire, and brilliancy of the piece. But I think the use of the eyelash yarn adds a bit of whimsy to the piece as well.

I’m really glad I got to create something from one of the past challenges. There’s still more I want to tackle, we’ll just have to see what kind of time I have. Now it’s your turn! Go to www.twilighttuesday.com to participate in this make-up week! Pick any of the past challenges and have fun!!! Make sure you comment on the blog so that we can all visit your blog and see what you’ve created. Until next time, spread the Twilight love!

Distress Ink Burn Technique

I was on the TTIC forums the other day (big surprise!) and we were discussing ways to distress paper. I had mentioned the Burnt Paper Technique developed by Ranger for Tim Holtz’s Distress Inks (cannot live w/out these!!!). Some of the girls didn’t know what it was… so I described the technique… but it’s always better to see pictures. So… here it is!

IMG_5306

So, let’s start with the colors. You need Antique Linen, Walnut Stain (or Vintage Photo), Fired Brick, and Black Soot. You can add a little Tea Dye too, if you’d like.

1. Tear the edges of your project (I will eventually put this little piece on a card)

2. Start with Antique Linen, buffing the edge of your project with the pad, or if you're comfortable with a sponge, you can use that. You will go in the deepest with the Antique Linen. All other colors will be less represented, if that makes sense. The sponge will give you a softer look too. I wanted to make what I was doing pretty harsh and obvious, for the purpose of this tutorial.

IMG_5307

IMG_5311

3. Take whichever of the 2 brown shades mentioned next. I used Walnut Stain. Work that into your edges, but allow the innermost portion of Antique Linen to show. I recommend working in a circular motion.

IMG_5312

4. Take your Fired Brick and work that in, again, leaving the inner most portion of Antique Linen, and Walnut Stain/Vintage Photo showing.

IMG_5313

5. Black Soot is last! You will use the least amount of Black Soot, but it will have the most impact. Don't use too much (unless you want your whole project to have the burnt look).

IMG_5314

I did add just a wee bit of Tea Dye, but I usually don’t. Again, I did this a bit heavier so it’d show better in my pictures. I advise that you do not work with straight edges. If the paper really was burnt, you'd have curled and uneven edges. So, rip your paper!!! Experiment with this for yourself! Have fun!!!
